Why We Use Procyon Carpet Cleaner

Why We Use Procyon Carpet Cleaner

When it comes to carpet cleaning, we only want to use the best products for your needs. Our favorite is Procyon Carpet Cleaner. Why do we prefer that over all the rest? Here’s a look at all the benefits.

Completely Toxic Free
The first thing we love about Procyon is that there are absolutely no toxins at all. What does this mean for you? You’ll be completely protected from some of the harmful allergens and chemicals put in similar types of carpet cleaning products or most store-bought cleaners. And they are extremely harmful!
Many of the toxins in most carpet cleaners lead to irritated skin, breathing problems, and even cancer! When you use carpet cleaners that are completely natural, you boost your health instead.
Hard to believe? Take a look at your own cleaners. You’ll find that they’re full of hard-to-pronounce words. Don’t worry about getting the pronunciation right. Just focus on the fact that they lead to defects, disease, and yes even death. Don’t you owe yourself more than that? We believe you do.
But these cleaners work! We know this is true, they certainly do get rid of the dirt, but in actuality you’re removing one type of harmful substance "dirt" and leaving behind an even more harmful product, the cleaner itself. The toxic residue in these types of cleaners are almost always left behind. It’s time to make a switch to something that is just as effective but better for your health and skin.

No Rapid Re-soiling

What is rapid re-soiling? Rapid re-soiling is when you have your carpet cleaned and a few short weeks later it appears dirty again. What happened? Well, it looked wonderful at first but the detergent that was used to remove the soil from the carpet was not removed completely itself. When detergent is left in the carpet it will not be long before your carpet will attract the soil back to the carpet fibers again and look just as bad if not worse than it was before you had your carpet cleaned. You see most carpet cleaning pre-sprays are detergent based and do a great job removing soil but the detergent based products are hard to rinse out of the carpet fibers themselves and just lead to another problem which is rapid re-soiling. So why do we use Procyon Carpet Cleaner? Procyon is a detergent free product and rinses easily from the carpet fibers assuring you of no rapid re-soiling and a fresh clean carpet for months to come. See the demonstration below.

Fully Environmentally Friendly
“Green” is the latest buzzword in business. Everyone is trying to do their best for the environment. So, surely finding cleaners that label themselves as “green” are the best options?
Of course they are, but you really need to make sure they are environmentally friendly. The majority of them really aren’t. You remember those toxins that are harmful to you? They’re also harmful to the environment. There is little regulation to the term when it comes to marketing.
Sure there are government regulations, but the manufacturers can just tweak formulas to meet them—and only just.
Natural products are the best ones for the environment. This is just what Procyon offers. It is 100% “green” without doing you any extra harm.

Fresh Feeling Carpet
When you have your carpet cleaned what should it feel like? There’s often a residue left behind from the soapy, detergent products other carpet cleaners use. It should absolutely feel fresh, clean, and soft just like properly cleaned carpet should.
Because Procyon doesn’t include any toxins or chemicals, there is nothing to leave behind. It is completely detergent and bacteria free, so it simply takes out the dirt and leaves your carpet looking and feeling soft & clean again.
On top of that, your carpet won’t feel irritating to your skin. Many cleaners leave a residue that reacts with skin, causing allergy symptoms and rashes. They can make some skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis worse.
We believe in only using the best carpet cleaner for you. When you opt for our carpet cleaning service , we will use Procyon Carpet Cleaner. This is our favorite because it will actually get your carpet it's absolute cleanest while leaving it soft & fresh, no left over residue, and best of all it is safe for you and your family!

How to Care for Your Marble Tile Flooring

How to Care for Your Marble Tile Flooring
Marble comes in a variety of colors and patterns, and has quickly become a favorite for shower stalls, counter tops and tile flooring. Caring for your marble tile flooring is essential to keep it shiny, clean, and protected from damages. Here are some tips for marble tile cleaning to help protect your flooring.

Clean Daily
Marble can end up dirty very quickly. The best thing to do is clean the tiles on a daily basis, using just gentle soapy water. If you use harsh chemicals, you will scratch and damage the top of the tiles. The only time you can use something stronger is if it is specifically designed for marble.
Use a soft mop when cleaning the flooring. This helps to avoid scratches and scuff marks.
Before you use the soapy water, brush up all the dirt on the floor. This prevents any abrasive materials getting stuck in the mop.

Seal the Marble
When you first get your marble, you need to make sure it is sealed. This will help to repel water and you’ll see it bead. While cleaning your marble tile, keep an eye on how the water reacts. When it stops beading and starts soaking into the tile, you’ll need to get the marble sealed again. This helps to protect the underside and will keep your tile flat.

Use Gentle Stain Treatments
Sometimes marble stains, so you always wipe up any spills as quickly as possible to prevent staining. When you spot a stain, use a gentle treatment that has no ammonia in it. Bleaching treatments will damage the surface of the marble, and may destroy the warranty!
When cleaning your marble tile, make sure you check the treatments you’re using. Soapy liquid is usually the best option for cleaning.

Professional Cleaning & Polishing
Over a period of time soil and abrasions may accumulate to where a regular cleaning may not get your marble flooring as clean & shiny as you like, so if your marble starts to loose it’s luster you will want to contact a professional marble tile cleaning expert to perform a deeper clean and possibly a polish to restore it back to its original beauty.

How Often Should I Have My Carpet Cleaned?

How Often Should I Have My Carpet Cleaned?

Vacuuming your carpets isn’t enough. There will soon come a time where you will want to consider having your carpet professionally cleaned to help keep your home spotless and allergen free and to extend the life of your carpet. Just how often should you have your carpet cleaned? Here’s a rough guide for your home.

The Average Carpet
It really depends on factors like the amount of foot traffic your carpet receives and where that carpet is laid, but on average you should look at getting the carpet cleaned every 12-18 months. This helps to lift all the dirt that gets into the fibers that vacuuming just doesn’t manage. You’ll also brighten some of the darker patches.
If your carpet is in a second home and rarely used, then cleaning can be less frequent. Just bear in mind that while there’s no foot traffic, dust will settle within the fibers.
That being said, if your carpet receives daily foot traffic and sees mud and dirt dragged in, you may want to consider cleaning more frequently.

Cleaning for Families
Families will find their carpet needs cleaning more frequently. You should consider professional carpet cleaning  every 6-12 months, instead. Your children are more likely to drag mud and dirt in or can spill drinks frequently.
Those who have pets should also consider cleaning every six months or so. The pet hairs will get stuck in the fibers and can cause some allergens. There will likely also be dirt and urine accidents that seep into the fibers.

Do you have both kids and pets? Consider cleaning every two or three months. This will help to eliminate pet problems and keep your children safe. You know they love to pick up anything from the floor and put it in their mouths!

So as you can see there is no one set rule for how often you should have your carpet cleaned but keeping these variables in mind mainly how much your carpet is used and your particular family members, and making sure you do not wait too long in between cleans will help keep your carpet investment longer and your home a healthier place to live for you and your family.

What is the best carpet for pets?

LifeGuard Carpet By Shaw is your best choice for carpet

What is the best carpet for pets is one of the most common questions I have run into in my 30 years of operating a local carpet cleaning company. Hi my name is Paul Dixon Owner of Carpet Renovations, Inc. serving the Tulsa & Broken Arrow Oklahoma Communities with our top of the line carpet cleaning service including pet odor removal and pet damage restoration services. Up until now I have not ran into a carpet that I could honestly recommend to my customers that would assure them if there dog, cat, or other family pet member urinated on it over an extended period of time that we as a professional carpet cleaning company could get the pet urine out. We have been quite successful in helping pet owners with this problem for years but up until now a 100% successful pet odor removal has not been possible with a cleaning alone. We have had to resort to extensive pet damage restoration which would include pad cushion removal, sealing subflooring, and enzyme treatments. These processes work well but can be very expensive to the pet owner.

What makes Pet Urine in carpet so hard to get out?

From a professional point of view getting pet urine out of carpet is not that difficult. Use a Urine Stain Neutralizing Pretreat along with a low pH rinsing solution and a deep steam cleaning will eliminate the pet urine from the carpet. Where the trouble comes from is the pet urine that is trapped past the face fibers and into the carpet backing and often even down into the carpet cushion. Pet urine gets trapped underneath in the carpet backing and after a cleaning it will continue to keep working its way back to the surface through the carpet fibers, this process is known as "wicking" in the carpet industry.

Why does a pet barrier carpet pad not solve the problem?

When the pet barrier pads became available to the consumer I thought terrific, finally something to help the homeowners not have to replace their carpet padding after pet urine contamination has made its way into the cushion. While this did improvement the problem somewhat it just simply did not resolve the issue completely. Why? Because pet urine still penetrated past the carpet fibers, into the carpet backing and now gets trapped between the carpet backing and top surface of the impenetrable pet barrier padding. Still leaving the issue of pet urine being trapped underneath in the backing and  wicking its way back through the carpet fibers leaving recurring stains and odors even after having the carpet cleaned by a professional.

What makes the new LifeGuard Carpet by Shaw different?

LifeGuard Carpet has truly found the answer for the pet owner whose pets continue to have those nasty little accidents on the carpet. The company used two techniques while engineering this pet proof carpet, the first being a patented stain and soil resistant protection that has been put into the carpet fiber making it very stain resistant and liquid resistant. The second being the backing itself. This is the true secret to their impenetrable carpet. The backing has been patented and made out of Thermoplastic. This new backing is so impenetrable that it has even been put through the ultimate test, a swimming pool was made out of it, filled up and that's right, not a drop of water made its way through.

Finally, as a carpet cleaning company if we service a customer that has purchased this type of carpet all we will be dealing with is getting the pet urine contamination out of the carpet fibers themselves and guess what, we can do that! If you are looking for a really good carpet and you have pets, we highly recommend LifeGuard Carpet by Shaw

Keep That Sun Off Your New Carpeting!

Summer is here and you got that much-anticipated bonus or income tax refund and bought brand new carpeting for your home!  It is clean and crisp and looking good! And you’re worrying about foot traffic and spills staining that new carpeting.  But are you worried about that sunshine?

Now that Summer is here, the sunshine is starting to peak through more and more every day. And while carpet will fade and change color over time, you can keep it lasting longer by keeping those sun rays off.

The carpeting industry refers to it as sun rot, which is the result of sun exposure. This will start that fading as soon as that carpet gets any natural light. Facts you may not realize about your carpeting and the sun:

  • Approximately 40% of carpet fading is from ultraviolet light
  • Approximately 25% of carpet fading is from solar heat and visible light
  • Approximately 10% of carpet fading is from artificial lighting, heat, humidity, and poor dye

With Ultraviolet radiation accounting for the largest percentage of fading, it is a must to protect your carpet from UV light year round no matter what part of the country you live in. Just about the biggest threat for carpet fading comes from the glass doors and windows that are facing southwest.

However, in a six-month period, carpet that isn’t protected from direct, unfiltered sunlight will have noticeable fading. Keep direct sunlight off of your carpet. Using blinds, curtains, and shades, closing them as needed.

Is Your Carpeting Making Your Fur Babies Sick?

Did you know that your carpeting could contain canine bacteria? Many people think that it is canines that cause bacteria and disease, which they can, but there may be bacteria residing in your carpet that can make your family pet sick.

First, let’s take a look at the different canine diseases and illnesses:

  • Distemper
  • Hepatitis
  • Kennel Cough

Your household’s hygiene plays a big part of keeping distemper, a viral disease that causes catarrh, coughing, and fever in dogs. Today, there isn’t a cure for this contagious disease, other than being clean and keeping your pet clean. Distemper is transmitted through pet fecal and urine. So getting you carpet professionally deep cleaned on a regular basis is important to your pet.

And Kennel Cough, the upper respiratory infection that is transmitted to dogs through airborne droplets from coughing and sneezing. When you or anyone, including your pets cough or sneeze, they leave agents behind to spread and contaminate surfaces including your carpet.

Rabies is a viral infection that affects a dog’s brain gray matter is transmitted by infected animal’s saliva. We all know that a dog bite is serious, especially if they are infected with this disease. But did you know it can also be transmitted from an infected animal that licks your carpeting, furniture or anything else?

Which Type of Carpet Stays Cleaner Longer?

So, what color of carpeting do you have in your home? What type of carpeting is it? Nylon, polyester or a wool carpet? When it comes to cleaning it and keeping it clean, the color is only part of the equation. What it is made from is the other part.

The chemical compound of your home’s carpet is not what determines if your carpet will ever get dirty. It is going to get dirty, especially if you have kids and pets. What the chemical compound does affect are the wear and tear. Depending on the chemical compound, carpeting wears differently.

For instance, let’s look at Olefin carpet. It is pretty much a plastic carpet that is rigid and doesn’t have any flexibility. Then, there is nylon carpet, which is a synthetic carpet. It is a flexible type of material and wears better than the Olefin.

Now, let’s look at the dirt and soil issues of carpeting. Regardless of what compound the carpet is made of, Olefin or nylon, if you’re going to buy a light colored carpet, it is going to get dirty and look worn out. Light colored carpet should only be used in low traffic areas.

The active household’s best choice is a Berber carpet or a short loop carpeting. These wear better, and as long as you don’t buy a light color, it won’t show dirt as bad. A neutral tan or a speckled frieze is a good choice. They clean easily for those daily accidents, and when it comes to professional cleaning, they are great.

Just follow the steps below and you too will soon be a candle wax removing pro yourself!

1. Fill a ziplock bag full of ice and place on the area of wax to be removed.

2. After the wax has become frozen use a tool such as a screw driver or blunt instrument of choice and chip away as much wax from the carpet as possible being careful not to damage the carpet fibers.

3. Remove all the chipped pieces of wax from the area and vacuum the area thoroughly.

4. Next place a paper towel over the area and using a regular clothes iron with the setting on low (no steam) lightly iron over the paper towel in a circular motion. Usually just about 20 seconds at a time.

What can Wetness do to Your Home?

Simply because your home isn’t on the coastline or near a body of water like a creek, lake, or river, doesn’t mean you’ll never experience water damage of some type. Anyone can have a bathtub or sink overflow, a washing machine overflow or even a water heater burst.

When any of that happens, it is important to get it cleaned up and dried out as fast as possible. Water Damage of any type can lead to destruction and will ruin everything it comes in contact with, especially the furniture and the walls, the carpeting, and carpet padding.   When water is left to stand, it seeps into baseboards and up the walls. It will weaken your home’s structure.  If the water leakage is happening on an upper floor or the attic, there is the risk of the ceiling getting water-logged and spreading debris, dust, and insulation all into the lower level living space.

To minimize the damage to your home’s interior and your personal items, it is important to eliminate all the humidity and moisture immediately. Any equipment that generates heat like computers and televisions will increase the humidity, making mold and mildew grow faster.

Once mold and mildew form, severe respiratory problems are likely with the allergens that are produced. Family members will be prone to rashes, red eyes, and runny noses as well as sneezing. Anyone with breathing problems like asthma will suffer.

If you experience any flooding in your home, don’t hesitate and call a professional company that can remove the water and dry your home out quickly.  The sooner you act, the better for your home’s structure and everyone inside.

Room Deodorizers – Are They a Good Thing?

As an owner of a professional carpet cleaning company here in Tulsa, Oklahoma we are in many residential homes through out the day after receiving calls from a concerned homeowner who's family dog or cat has been urinating on the carpet. One of the most common occurrences we encounter is the use of room deodorizers in one form or another. Often times I will leave from a home and still smell the scent that gets trapped in my sinuses for hours. Yes, room deodorizers leave a pleasant smell and aroma in the air but exactly what is in them and what are we breathing, are they safe?

So that leads to the question; Room deodorizers - are they a good thing?

According to the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) in their publication, Protect Your Family from the Hidden Hazards in Air Fresheners  many of these products contain phthalates (pronounced thal-ates)—hazardous chemicals known to cause hormonal abnormalities, birth defects, and reproductive problems. NRDC’s independent testing of 14 common air fresheners, none of which listed phthalates as an ingredient, uncovered these chemicals in 86 percent (12 of 14) of the products tested, including those advertised as “allnatural” or “unscented.”

They go on to say; There is a clear need for closer monitoring of the types of chemicals manufacturers are allowed to put into air fresheners—and for consumers to be provided with better information about what is in the products they do purchase.

Not all room deodorizers are bad, but you should try to be more informed about the products you buy. There are several natural air deodorizers on the shelves today that are not harmful.

More consumers are leaning toward natural living after experiencing health issues or loss of a family member leading them to educate themselves in a cleaner healthier life style. Many who have become aware of the dangers of chemicals and toxic additives that are not being regulated by the production companies are now turning to more natural alternatives such as the use of an essential oil diffuser or residential ozone machine to help eliminate odors in their homes. These alternative choices not only leave the air smelling clean and fresh but also have many health benefits as well.

If you own an indoor pet and you are dealing with odor in your home you will want to know that pet urine after 72 hours goes through a chemical process and eventually turns into a gas which is what you are smelling after these toxins reach the air and enter into your breathing zone. Not only does this bacteria produce a bad odor that permeates  through out the rest of your home but it is potentially dangerous for your health as well. Masking the odor with an air freshener is only masking the problem and can possibly be adding to the dangers of breathing in particles that are not safe for you or your family.

When it comes to pet urine odor and bacteria in your carpet or upholstery you will want to call in a professional who deals with those kinds of situations on a regular basis. Carpet Renovations is one such company that you can confide in that has the experience and know how, using pet urine neutralizers, low pH rinsing solutions, truck mounted steam carpet extraction systems, and pet urine enzymes. Carpet Renovations has over 30 years experience with the latest developments on pet odor removal and will put their know how to work for you, leaving you with a cleaner healthier home.

If you are looking for plush, rich carpeting for your home, then yes, thick carpet is what you should get. Thick plush carpet is great for living areas, a game room or even your master bedroom. However, for a dense and durable carpet, then thick carpeting is not your best choice. Areas such as hallways or a room that has a lot of traffic would not be the best place for the newer style of thick carpeting. For density, you want each inch to have more yarn, and that will give you longer durability. How much carpet fiber is defined per inch on the carpet density and face weight, and both of these aspects play an important role when it comes to determining the durability of carpet.

Dense carpeting has the appearance of not looking as aged and worn. When there is a lot of carpet fibers, it makes it stronger. If you’re looking for durability, look for carpeting with a face weight of more than sixty ounces. However, if you are confused by the two numbers, just refer to the density numbers which are more standardized.

Keep in mind that thicker carpet is difficult to clean, and a dense carpet fiber count makes for a perfect trap for allergens, debris, and dirt. Thus, from the cleaning aspect, high traffic areas are not where you want to install thick carpeting.

Carpet with longer yarns and thicker carpets are more prone to matting, much like dogs with longer hair. This is why businesses with a lot of foot traffic will go with extremely dense carpeting. In a residential use, though, you can go with a happy medium density. A tightly curled and wavy carpet is very durable because of the tight twist every 7 to 9 inches.

A great choice for the highly sought after and much desired thick carpet that is now available to consumers would be perfect as an area rug in a main living room, game room, or favorite hobby room. Using this type of carpet as an area rug enables the homeowner to rotate the carpet from time to time to keep traffic patterns from developing in main walk areas.

When it comes to thick carpet it is sure to be very comfortable and beautiful for any area it is put in but remember do choose wisely on the location you choose.

10 Things we like to do in Tulsa

One of the things that the owner and crew at Carpet Renovations like about being in the Tulsa area as a business and as residents are all the activities that are going on all the time. T-Town is a booming city now and a great part of the industrious part of Oklahoma. It still has that small town charm and feel that people are looking for and it still offers some of the big city lifestyles, too.

Take a look at what you can enjoy while living or visiting Tulsa, Oklahoma:

1. River Parks: The Oklahoma we see today was acquired by the U.S. in 1803 from France as part of the Louisiana Purchase. It became known as where the Trail of Tears ended when the U.S. forced Native Americans to leave their home in the eastern and southern states.

Today, the River Parks in Oklahoma are where you’ll enjoy more than 800 acres of land along the Arkansas River that features a trail system that weaves through open lawns with tree-lined picnic areas. Dotted with bronze wildlife sculptures and colored by the native trees and wildflowers, here are where many public events are held with an amphitheater and a floating stage. Enhancements are being made to the park area, and visitors will soon experience something new.

2.Oklahoma Aquarium: The Oklahoma Aquarium was recently opened in 2003 and provides 72,000-square-feet of exhibits that include a coral reef, invertebrates, Ozark habitats, sharks and Oklahoma species.

3. Restaurants: There are many restaurants in and around Tulsa that the residents and visitors alike both enjoy. These are three favorites of the crew at Carpet Renovations:

Speedy Gonzales: Some of the best Mexican cuisine in the state.
Fish Daddy’s Seafood Grill House: A bar and eatery that serves some of the best Cajun specialties and fish.
Olive Garden: One of many major chain restaurants in the area with the best Italian food.

4. Bike at Turkey Mountain Red Trail and Tulsa River Park: One of Tulsa’s most beautiful nature areas is this 300-acre of wilderness that stretches along the west bank of the river. With lots of woods, dirt trails, ponds and more, this is one of the city’s most popular areas for biking, hiking, skating, walking and more.

5. Hike at Red Bud Valley: There is nothing more peaceful than a hike or walk in Redbud Valley Nature Preserve. Beauty among a rugged scenery that is alive with animals and plants that are native to northeastern Oklahoma.

6. Tulsa State Fair: It only comes around once a year, but it is a must-do for anyone living here and should-do for any visitors that are in town during that time. It is in operation for 11 days after Labor Day starting on the 4th Thursday. You’ll find more activities, animals, food and rides than you can get to all on one visit.

7. Tulsa Zoo:   The Tulsa Zoo is a great place to bring both young and old, resident or visitor you are in for a fun filled day of adventure.  A unique family friendly destination featuring animal encounters on 84 acres. The animal exhibits offer an exciting journey into the natural world with must-see exhibits including the Mary K. Chapman Rhino Reserve, Chimpanzee Connection and the Helmerich Sea Lion Cove.

8. The new Warren Theater: Kicking it back old school in the Tulsa area with today’s technology, this is a retro-style multiplex that shows new releases and in some of the locations, there are '40s-style diners and in some the IMAX technology.

9. Shows at the BOK Center: Here are almost 20,000 seats in this multi-purpose arena and the center has become a concert, events and primary indoor sports venue.

10. Shop the Woodland Hill Mall: Here you’ll have over one million square feet on two levels to shop till you drop with all the major stores and many local and regional stores, too, along with a food court to get refueled and shop some more!

How Behind-the-Times is That Carpet Cleaning Company?

In every industry, there are companies that are presented as a professional service with a professional staff. It is up to the consumer to determine if they are hiring a company that is really what they are claiming to be.

In today’s economic times, it is more important than ever to ask questions and verify what is being claimed and read the fine print on anything and everything before you pay money or sign on the line.

Carpet cleaning services are no different, and if anything, this industry has its fair share of companies that are not what they may appear to be. Many ‘fly-by-night’ carpet cleaning companies seem like the real deal and offer a professional service at a great price; at first glance that is. They even go so far as to have professional looking staff in uniforms.

Always remember that not everything is as it is presented and when it comes to cheap prices, you may get what you pay for. Just like any business, a carpet cleaning service is in business to make a profit. So, if they are offering really cheap sounding prices, the quality of the work may very well be poor and done by a professional-looking crew that really doesn’t know anything about cleaning carpets.

To make sure you are getting what you think you are getting, here are some questions to ask a prospective carpet cleaning company:

1. Are your services guaranteed?

A company that backs up its work and follows up to make sure it's customers are happy with the service received is a company you will want to do business with.

2. Do you provide guaranteed quotes and are there any additional charges associated with your needs?

Any reputable carpet cleaning company will be as thorough as possible finding out your exact needs up front. If a prospective company doesn’t, pass them up. When hiring a carpet cleaning company they should know exactly what your needs area and you should know exactly what they are going to charge and what is included in the services you will be receiving.

3. What type of equipment and system do you use?

A reputable carpet cleaning company will use truck-mounted equipment that consists of a motor driven machine. The technician will pre-treat, agitate, and extract your carpet bringing in only a carpet wand and hose, not a small and inexpensive portable type machine that you could have rented at the local hardware store yourself.  Any other type of equipment that isn’t truck-mounted is not something you want to be paying for and really any professional company should not be using cheap and inexpensive equipment in the first place.

4. What experience do you have and how long have you been in business in this local community?

By the end of your initial conversation with the company you are considering to hire you will have some kind of idea if the individual has the qualifications and know how to perform the kind of quality work you are looking for but one of the biggest deciding factors should be how long have they been in business and how long have they been located in the city you live in. There are many 'fly-by-night' companies taking advantage of local communities on a regular basis. They come in, stay for a few years, then off to the next town. Hard to believe I know but this is true in just about any kind of service oriented business.

Find out what kind of qualifications the business has. Is the company certified by IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification)?

IICRC is the governing type entity that most reputable carpet cleaning services are registered with and their staff is certified by. This is an indication that the company and their staff have received hands-on training of an extensive nature and have passed the IICRC guidelines and qualifications.

When it comes to carpet cleaning look for a company that has been around for a while. This type of company will be more apt to have perfected their technique in carpet cleaning and have accumulated the proper equipment, cleaners, and know how through experience.

Pet Urine: You cleaned it up, but the Smell is Still There? Now What?

Once your dog has urninated on the carpet, they will keep coming back to that spot, no matter how small the spot. Then, other dogs will re-mark that spot. So, once your pet has soiled on the carpet, you clean the spot up using the process that we’ve offered in this blog before. Still, he or she keeps going back and doing it again and again, not to mention you can smell it in the room.

Well, unfortunately, pet urine stains are not always obvious on carpeting, and dark carpet is worse. So, it is hard to clean up what you can’t see. Once pet urine has dried, it turns into crystals that you can’t see with the naked eye. That’s where the use of an LED or UV black light can come in handy. We’re going to show you how to find that invisible, put smelly, pet urine stain. First, you’ll need a few items:

  • Your Vacuum Cleaner
  • A Black Light
  • Masking Tape

Step 1

Vacuum the room thoroughly to remove as much fur, lint and other particles that may be on the floor.

Step 2

Turn all the lights off and close any blinds, curtains, or shades. Then, shut the door. You want the room as dark as possible to get the best effect from the black light. It may help to wait until night when the room is at its darkest.

Step 3

Now, take your black light and start scanning the carpeted room no more than two feet away from the floor. You will see a brownish-yellow or a fluorescent green color where there is pet urine.

When you have a spot showing what may be pet urine, put a piece of masking tape over it or outline the larger spots.

Now that you know where the urine spots are, you can spot clean them with a little more accuracy than when you clean the whole carpet, being careful not to damage the areas. Using a urine stain neutralizer combined with a low pH rinsing solution and post spray with a pet urine enzyme treatment in these areas will be the best way to go.

If you don't have the time or just prefer to have a professional who has done this before do it for you, just give us a call. We are the pet odor removal experts and have the proper equipment and products to get the absolute best results.

Cat Spray – Carpeting’s Worst Enemy

For male cats, spraying is a communicative behavior, and they have several reasons they may be communicating. For a homeowner, it is the worst thing to have your carpet and furniture sprayed by male cat urine. It is a pungent odor that stains whatever is sprayed. Carpet and furniture cleaning are two reasons people call us at Carpet Renovations, but cat spraying can be stopped, and we’re going to offer some suggestions for that:

A Few Simple Tips

Don’t bother scolding your cat for spraying. They won’t respond like your dog does. In fact, it causes them more stress and they spray more. Be sure to give your cat a lot of attention, especially if you have more than one. They are a territorial creature and get jealous easily.

Being informed is the Most Helpful Tool

Spraying and urinating are two different things. Learn the difference between the two so you can tell if your cat is communicating or simply urinating. If they are urinating outside their litter box, it can be indicating a medical issue. Spraying will leave less behind than urinating, and your cat will back up against the item they are territorial marking.

Male cats that have not been neutered are more likely to spray than neutered cats, and it is more prone to happen during the mating season. Once you know why a male cat is spraying, you can determine ways to eliminate.

If there is anything new in the house like a baby or another pet, or your cat is stressed for other reasons, they will spray. Keeping the household routine the same is the biggest help in getting you male cat not to spray your carpet or furniture.

Give your male cat places to perch up high so they can be above everything. Keep their feeding schedule on time at the same time every day. Set up more litter boxes and keep them scooped out daily. When they do spray the furniture or carpet, clean it immediately so it won’t keep drawing them back to do it again. Using a mixture of half vinegar and half water is a great solution for eliminating cat urine odor.

Keep a regular schedule of professional carpet and furniture cleaning. Instead of twice a year, as recommended for most households, you may want to look at a quarterly schedule. Keep a watch on Carpet Renovation’s website for coupons and specials!

How effective is a Doggy Door?

One of the biggest complaints we hear from customers about why they want their carpets cleaned is because their dog uses the potty all over the house. This not only can cause staining, but the odor soaks into the carpet fibers and the padding.

Housebreaking a dog is easy! If you’re lucky, that is. Most of the time, housebreaking a dog is somewhat of a challenge. There are many ‘tried and true’ approaches, but anyone that has had several dogs will tell you that the same routine doesn’t always work for every dog. One thing that most people who have one will tell you is, it is great to have is a doggy door.

Most of the time, most dogs love going outside, and that makes housebreaking a breeze. Using a doggy door comes naturally to many dogs. For others, they seem to be afraid of it and then there are some that just don’t understand what it is. So, before it becomes a help, you may need to help them out a little bit.

A Few Tips on teaching how to use the Doggy Door

First of all, don’t make them afraid of the door and forcing them in and out of the door, aka shoving them through it will do that. Coax your fur baby with praise and reward them a treat when they go through the door.

Next, don’t make training sessions any longer than 10 to 15 minutes at a time. Start by holding the flap up totally at first for your dog and open it less and less, little by little. This will teach them to start pushing it open to get to the treat. Most, if not all doggy doors, come with magnets to hold them shut. You can remove the magnet to make it easier to push the flap open.

Another approach is to take the flap off temporarily and let your fur baby get accustomed to going in and out the opening for a bit. If you have an electronic pet door that sounds when activated, you can disable the electronics until your dog gets used to the door.

If you have more than one dog, when one gets used to using the doggy door, the others will often follow suit. Don’t get the smallest size you can find, you want it large enough so your dog can get in and out easily. If you have a puppy, keep in mind they do grow!

So if your dog has been having more accidents in the house and you haven't tried installing a doggy door yet, this just may be your answer to resolving the problem completely. Remember if he can let himself out when he needs to go it only figures he would have a lot fewer accidents in the house.
