Pet Urine: You cleaned it up, but the Smell is Still There? Now What?
Once your dog has urninated on the carpet, they will keep coming back to that spot, no matter how small the spot. Then, other dogs will re-mark that spot. So, once your pet has soiled on the carpet, you clean the spot up using the process that we’ve offered in this blog before. Still, he or she keeps going back and doing it again and again, not to mention you can smell it in the room.
Well, unfortunately, pet urine stains are not always obvious on carpeting, and dark carpet is worse. So, it is hard to clean up what you can’t see. Once pet urine has dried, it turns into crystals that you can’t see with the naked eye. That’s where the use of an LED or UV black light can come in handy. We’re going to show you how to find that invisible, put smelly, pet urine stain. First, you’ll need a few items:
- Your Vacuum Cleaner
- A Black Light
- Masking Tape
Step 1
Vacuum the room thoroughly to remove as much fur, lint and other particles that may be on the floor.
Step 2
Turn all the lights off and close any blinds, curtains, or shades. Then, shut the door. You want the room as dark as possible to get the best effect from the black light. It may help to wait until night when the room is at its darkest.
Step 3
Now, take your black light and start scanning the carpeted room no more than two feet away from the floor. You will see a brownish-yellow or a fluorescent green color where there is pet urine.
When you have a spot showing what may be pet urine, put a piece of masking tape over it or outline the larger spots.
Now that you know where the urine spots are, you can spot clean them with a little more accuracy than when you clean the whole carpet, being careful not to damage the areas. Using a urine stain neutralizer combined with a low pH rinsing solution and post spray with a pet urine enzyme treatment in these areas will be the best way to go.
